A different kind of freedom...
A better freedom. An internal freedom. It's not about being free from the external controls others exert over our lives, it's about being free within ourselves. Isn't that the only kind of freedom that really matters? Would you rather be an enslaved person with a free heart, or a free person with an enslaved heart?
In our pursuit of authentic freedom, we've taken ourselves, people, and life in general too seriously. At the same time we've not taken the sovereignty of God or the gospel seriously enough. That is, the implications of the gospel are more profound than we've appreciated. So we've not taken God, grace, or eternity seriously enough.
The gospel of grace has made an invitation, not only the forgiveness of sins, but to a life of simple freedom. Certainly, redemptive grace is unfathomable for its mysterious and thorough impact. But as we were saved by grace, so we are invited to live by grace. Grace's invitation, then, is that we actually learn freedom.
Freedom to simply live, love, and laugh.
